Oktoberfest Volkswagen Adventure 2019

The 2019 Oktoberfest was held as usual in the stunning River Dart Country Park in Devon on the 4th – 6th October. This fabulous little festival has become a yearly favourite with our family. There is so much to do at the county park even without all the various entertainment laid on by the Oktoberfest team.

We went for just the Saturday this year, although camping for the weekend is available including with electrical hook-up. We arrived early and after looking around the merchandise stalls, headed to the large woodland play park to let the boys burn off some energy! It rained for a lot of the day, but being British we got on with it anyway. There’s no such things as bad weather, only bad clothing as they say!

After a picnic lunch back in our van we went to see the dog show which was great fun. The boys then decided they wanted to go and play in the lake so we got them wet-suited up and they got stuck in! The rope swing over the river was particularly popular this year, as was the pirate ship in the middle of the lake. They also enjoyed playing in the inflatable orbs. There is a high ropes course there as well, but we didn’t partake this time.

Once the boys decided they had had enough of the water, they changed and we took a wander around the campsite. This years theme was “Christmas” and we enjoyed looking at all the amazing ways the veedub community had decorated the campsite. Fantastic!

We rounded the trip off with a vegan BBQ before heading home – probably our last bbq of the year *sob*!

This festival is such a great way to round the camping year off. There is always so much to do; River Dart itself is beautiful with woodlands and streams aplenty. The atmosphere is relaxed and very family friendly too. We are looking forward to next year already, and hoping to camp so we can enjoy even more Oktoberfest offerings.
